If you are looking for RAW image editing software there are two main contenders. Apple’s Aperture 3 and Adobe’s Lightroom 3. Both are available as free trial downloads so that you can try before you buy.
If you are a PC user then the decision is simple, as Apple’s Aperture is only available on the mac. If you have a mac, then you have to make a decision as to which program to use to edit your RAW files. Each program has its own specific strengths and weaknesses, and I recommend downloading a trial version of each and testing them out to find which program you are more comfortable with. I prefer to use either one of these programs over the Pentax software that comes with your camera.
Note: Both programs support both the Pentax K-x and Pentax K-7′s RAW format (PEF).
Note: Adobe Lightroom 3 trial is a beta program and will expire once the full version is released. Aperture 3 is a 30 day trial and is mac only.
Adobe Lightroom 3 beta 2

Download a trial of Lightroom 3 beta 2 (mac and PC)
Apple Aperture 3

Download a trial of Aperture 3 (mac)
Both are fantastic programs for editing RAW files and I leave it up to you to decide which one you like better.
