beginner photography book | kxuser.com

When I first jumped into digital photography I wanted to learn everything. But where to start? Well, in the past I have recommended a couple of books that I got started with, but there is one book in particular that shows up on every forum when someone asks “I am new to photography, what is a good beginner book to help me understand photography better?”

Understanding Exposure

This book, Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson, always shows up as the answer to that question. I have seen this book recommended so many times online and the recommendations are true, this is a great book for getting started with a digital SLR camera. Just check out the summary

For serious amateur photographers who already shoot perfectly focused, accurately exposed images but want to be more creative with a camera, here’s the book to consult. More than seventy techniques, both popular and less-familiar approaches, are covered in detail, including advanced exposure, bounced flash and candlelight, infrared, multiple images, soft-focus effects, unusual vantage points, zooming, and other carefully chosen ways to enhance photographs. The A-Z format make sit easy for readers to find a specific technique, and each one is explained in jargon-free language. Top Tips for each technique help readers achieve superb results, even on the first attempt.

Sounds great. Most people that are just purchasing their first digital SLR camera did so because they were upgrading from a point and shoot camera and wanted something that had more creative freedom to it and provided better looking photographs. This is the perfect book for someone new to a digital SLR that wants to learn about different techniques to achieve better and more creative photographs. I also recommend this book to the beginning SLR photographer.
