Purchasing a lens is a big investment. A lot of nice lenses are more expensive than the actual camera bodies, and photographers swear by their “glass”. In my experience you typically get what you pay for. A lens that costs a lot of money is probably going to give you really clear photographs. I was bumming around the Pentax Beginner’s Forum on pentaxforums.com and found a link to a handy Pentax lens reference. It explains what all the different series of lenses are called and how they work. A good link, check it out here.
Selecting a digital camera brand is a difficult task. Once you purchase your camera and buy a few lenses for it you are pretty much with that brand for the long haul! (Unless you have tons of money lying around) One thing that drew me to the Pentax brand was the fact that you could use all these old lenses with their new digital SLRs. There is just a little bit of extra setup you have to do to use an older lens with the K-x, and an article on Pentax’s support site explains how to do it. Link and instructions after the jump. After purchasing my K-x I realized that the included 18-55mm lens did not come with a lens hood. Since this was my first real lens that I owned I did some research online to see if a hood was really necessary and how it actually helps you.
